Horizons Sahel is a non-profit organisation under the French 1901 Law whose objective is to contribute to sustainable development in Senegal in partnership with the local communities, associations and private and public health educational structures. It mainly focuses on the collection of second-hand or unused medical equipment, which is handled by volunteers from French hospitals (including Tours’ CHRU). Driven by hospital biomedical engineers, this association has been the prime mover behind the cooperation between the CHRU and HOGIP in Dakar, to whom it has provided numerous medical equipment.
Un sourire en face is a non-profit organisation that facilitates the welcoming in the CHRU of Tours of children with very rare craniofacial malformations (Crouzon syndrome, Pfeiffer syndrome, Apert syndrome, Hypertelorism) who cannot be operated in their countries because of the lack of resources, adapted medical facilities or specialised health professionals… The agreement made with the CHRU enables children from numerous countries to be cared for in maxillofacial surgery and paediatric neurosurgery units.
Chaîne de l’Espoir is an international non-profit organisation founded in 1994 that aims to strengthen health systems to give everyone, and especially children, the same chances of survival and development. The paediatric cardiology unit of CHRU of Tours has been in a long-standing cooperation with this organisation in the welcoming of patients within the CHRU and the support of the development of paediatric heart surgery in Burkina Faso and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dr. Paul Neville is in charge of Chaîne de l’Espoir’s programs for Burkina Faso.
Teo Touraine is a non-profit organisation that supports the development of paediatric neurosurgery in West Africa (Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Senegal). The CHRU of Tours’ neurosurgery team has been working with it since 2007 by on-site training of the staff. Thanks to this partnership, surgical and anaesthetic local teams of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) have now gained enough autonomy to take care of children. A partnership agreement has also been in place for several years between the CHRU of Tours and Teo Touraine for the donation of medical equipment.
Face Au Monde – Un visage pour la vie ! is a non-profit organisation founded in 2003 that works in favour of treating facial deformities for children worldwide. It allows these children to access care in France and elsewhere, by implementing financial, human and material means. It has a partnership with the maxillofacial surgery unit of the CHRU of Tours to promote the advancement of knowledge and approaches.
